Action Alert: Tell Your Senators: Co-Sponsor the Family Security Act Now!
FFL endorses the Family Security Act, S. Bill 5256, which enhances the child tax credit and introduces the child tax credit for pregnant women.
Specifically. the Family Security Act will:
- Increases the Child Tax Credit amount to $4,200 for families with a child between ages 0-5 and $3,000 for families with a child between ages 6-17.
- Families may claim the credit for up to six children annually, and can choose to receive the credit in advanced monthly payments ($350 per month for a child ages 0-5 and $250 for a child ages 6-17).
- Establishes a $2,800 tax credit for pregnant mothers, which families can also receive in advanced monthly payments starting at 20 weeks.
- Doubles the benefits for twins, triples for triplets and so on. A mother carrying multiples will get $2800 per child. So, for example, a mom pregnant with twins will get $5,600.
With families struggling to put food on the table and pay the rent and utilities, these extra credits could help lift millions of children out of poverty.
