Protecting Your Child From Intimate Images of Them Online

Last week we announced a legislative victory of the Take It Down Act being passed and signed into law. Social media companies now have to take non-consensual intimate images down within 48 hours of a victim reporting it to their platform.

This week Public Education Coordinator and Editor Joyce McCauley-Benner explains on our Women Deserve Better helpsite how parents can protect their teen from this vicious form of abuse.

Fake and/or compromising images of girls shared without consent have ruined lives.

Others have received demands to pay or the criminals threaten to share the victims’ photos with their parents and close contacts, in what is called “sextortion.” This has driven many teens to suicide.

We encourage you to discuss this with your child. A version of this article is also on Girls Deserve Better website.

Thank you again for your support as we protect teen girls, whose images are the most vulnerable from this crime.

Because women deserve better,

P.S. We will be reaching students from across the country at the upcoming Celebrate Life Conference. Thank you for supporting our efforts to prepare them the school year!
